I'm in a bitchy mood, so I am apologizing in advance for this post.
Why is it that when people hear how my life is going to shit and they tell me about how their lives are wonderful? Yeah, it's cool that things are great for you, but keep it to yourself or find someone else to tell.
After hearing about Matt getting laid off, one person told us about his recent raise at work. Another told us about turning down multiple job offers in a week. Why did they find it necessary to share that information? All I want is someone to say "that sucks" or to commiserate.
It's like if someone told me their grandmother died and I said, "Oh, shitty. My grandma's doing great. In fact, she just ran a marathon and then baked me a zillion cookies and told me how much she loved me and how she planned to live forever."
So here's my warning: don't tell me about how wonderful your life is, or you'll get the middle finger.

Reading Rainbow
I was looking at YouTube videos of people reading to kids to get a better idea of how to hold books, since I'm storytelling at a second grade class tomorrow. I came across this video of the Reading Rainbow intro, and Matt said, "Shows like this encouraged kids to do drugs."
And speaking of messed up TV shows from my childhood, does anyone remember Zoobilee Zoo? It was seriously effed up, and I watched it all the time.
I made Matt watch the clip of the show's intro, and he said, "If our kids ever insist on watching shit like this, I'll give them some acid and make them watch NOVA instead."
Won't he make a good father?

The Great Blizzard of 2009
Hey, everyone! I thought you'd all like to hear that we are alright, since I'm sure you've heard on the news that our area had a blizzard.
It snowed about half an inch to an inch in the Charlotte metro area, and everyone is freaking out. Matt and I have to laugh at all of the hysteria. People are rushing to the grocery stores and buying all of the milk, bread, eggs and other essentials. There is more panic now than there was September when the hurricane was coming.
My school is delaying class/work for two hours. All of the schools in Charlotte closed for the day.
Matt's coworker called in and said he couldn't make it to work because of the snow. Another coworker emailed him this hilarious response: "I can not believe the amount of snow you received!! I have called Mint Hill and they are sending a snow plow to help you get out! I gave them your cell number and the driver will call when he is at your house. Because of the blizzard conditions you may not be able to see him when he gets there, so stay by the phone."
It's all they are talking about on the news, and the stations are all advising that if you're driving anywhere to pack extra clothes, blankets, food, and make sure you give your loved ones an itinerary of your trip, no matter how short.
In the meantime, my loving husband decided to borrow the snow scraper from the Subaru (it has a longer handle), and forgot to put it back in the car. I think I might have to light some road flares and maybe someone will come dig me out of the snow.
I'm getting a haircut at 11 a.m., so if you don't hear from me later I may have been a casualty of the Great Blizzard of 2009; consider this an itinerary of my trip. I'm attaching a picture of the blizzard, because I'm sure it's a historic moment. After all, nothing else newsworthy is happening today, right?? After all, inaugurations happen every four years but this blizzard is a once in a lifetime event.

Holiday Treats
I will be helping my mom with holiday baking this year, so I asked Matt what treats he'd like. Since my mom always makes fancy treats like homemade fudge, carmels, and macaroons, I expected that he'd want something special, but he wanted something simple: Rice Krispies treats (RKTs).
I think RKTs are the most underrated treat. Everyone loves them, they are easy and cheap to make, but around the holidays people tend to labor over fruitcakes, pumpkin rolls, and other complicated treats.
Maybe Matt's love for RKTs has something to do with the fact that we live in Rock Hill, the same town as Vernon Grant, the artist who created Snap, Crackle, and Pop.
